Mountain Sweet Pepperbush is a tall native understory shrub, native to the rich, moist, hardwood forests and mountain cove edges of the southern Appalachians from Virginia and North Carolina south to Georgia and Alabama, growing to 12 feet or more in deep, humus-rich mountain soils and producing fragrant white flower spikes in July and August that attract bumblebees and native butterflies. Distinguished from its coastal relative (Clethra alnifolia) by its greater height, more shade tolerance, and spectacular cinnamon-brown exfoliating bark that peels away in shaggy layers through the winter — an outstanding ornamental feature that rivals the most prized native bark textures. An excellent shrub for the shade garden in zones 5–8, where it tolerates conditions that defeat many other flowering shrubs; grow in moist, well-drained, acidic, humus-rich soil in partial shade and mulch deeply with leaf litter to maintain consistent moisture. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 60–96 дюймів Висота: 72–144 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–30 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 18–24°C
