Опис
Mottled Wild Ginger is a beautiful native evergreen ground cover of the southern Appalachians and upper coastal plain, producing low mounds of heart-shaped, leathery leaves decorated with silver and pale green mottling against dark green — one of the most ornamentally spectacular native shade plants of the southeastern United States. Unlike the more northern Asarum canadense, which is deciduous, Mottled Wild Ginger retains its attractively patterned foliage through winter and forms a weed-suppressing carpet in dry to moist shade where few other plants grow reliably year-round. The curious, urn-shaped brownish-purple flowers are produced near the soil surface in late spring, hidden beneath the foliage where they are pollinated primarily by ground beetles and ants attracted to their earthy fragrance. Plant divisions in spring in moist to moderately dry, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in deep to partial shade; plants spread very slowly but are virtually permanent once established, gradually forming dense colonies that suppress weeds under deciduous trees.
Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща
Відстань між рослинами: 6–12 дюймів
Висота: 4–8 дюймів
Дні до схожості: 30–60
Температура ґрунту для схожості: 13–21°C

Plant clump divisions in early spring in moist to moderately dry, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in deep to partial shade; Mottled Wild Ginger is slow-growing and long-lived. Maintain consistent moisture until established, then reduce watering as the plant is drought-tolerant in deep shade once its root system is developed.
