Опис

Marlberry is a handsome native evergreen shrub or small tree, native to the coastal hammocks, tropical hardwood forests, and pinelands of south Florida and the Keys, growing as a common and important component of the hammock understory layer in partial to full shade. It produces clusters of small white flowers from summer through fall, followed by clusters of round, glossy black berries that are one of the most reliable and abundant bird food sources in south Florida's hammock ecosystem — the berries are consumed by dozens of species of warblers, thrushes, vireos, and resident birds throughout fall and winter. An adaptable and attractive native shade shrub for zone 9b–11 landscapes, Marlberry fills the role of native understory shrub in conditions too shaded for most flowering shrubs, providing year-round evergreen structure, summer-fall blooms, and exceptional wildlife value. Important note: always confirm you are purchasing native Marlberry (Ardisia escallonioides) and not the look-alike invasive Coral Ardisia (Ardisia crenata), which has escaped cultivation and invaded Florida's native hammocks. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 48–72 дюймів Висота: 72–180 дюймів Дні до схожості: 21–60 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 21–27°C

Marlberry is not to be confused with the invasive Ardisia crenata (Coral Ardisia) — Marlberry is a native species with smaller, less toothed leaves and larger black berries. Always verify you are purchasing the native species.
