Опис
Maidencane is the dominant emergent aquatic grass of the Gulf Coastal Plain's freshwater marshes, lake margins, and slow-moving waterways — forming vast, grass-like stands in shallow water from Texas to Florida that serve as one of the most important waterfowl habitat grasses in the southeastern United States. Dabbling ducks including mallards, teal, mottled ducks, and wood ducks consume the seeds profusely during fall migration; the emergent stands also provide critical nesting cover for king rails, common gallinules, and purple gallinules. In constructed wetlands, stormwater retention ponds, and rain garden overflow areas, maidencane stabilizes wet banks and shallow margins with its extensive rhizome system while providing year-round wildlife value. It spreads rapidly in aquatic conditions by rhizomes and self-seeding and can form dense monocultures in productive conditions — appropriate for naturalized pond and wetland margins but requires management in small water gardens to prevent it from overwhelming other plantings.

Час посадки: 0–4 тижнів spring
Plant rhizome divisions or plugs in spring in shallow water (0–12 inches), wet marsh margins, or permanently saturated soil in full sun; maidencane spreads aggressively by rhizomes in aquatic conditions — site where it has room to spread or contain with barriers in smaller water features.
