Опис

Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade; leatherleaf mahonia is a bold architectural evergreen shrub with some of the most striking foliage in the shade garden — stiff, upright canes bearing enormous compound leaves (18–24 inches) of dark, holly-like leaflets with viciously spiny edges that create a dramatic tropical effect in the deepest shade. Fragrant yellow flowers appear in winter in drooping grape-like clusters, followed by powdery blue-purple berries in spring that are edible (tart, used for jelly and wine). It is one of the few large shrubs that truly thrives in deep, dry shade — an outstanding barrier plant and shade specimen. NOTE: Mahonia bealei is listed as invasive in several southeastern states including Texas and Georgia — check local invasive species lists before planting; the native alternative Mahonia trifoliolata (agarita) is an excellent substitute in Texas. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 48–72 дюймів Висота: 48–96 дюймів Дні до схожості: 30–90 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 10–18°C

The spiny leaflets make handling difficult — wear gloves.
