Опис
Plant in moist, acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil sheltered from strong winds in partial shade; bigleaf magnolia holds the distinction of producing the largest simple leaves of any native tree in North America — up to 32 inches long and 12 inches wide — and the combination of these extraordinary leaves with the enormous, intensely fragrant white flowers (up to 16 inches across) makes this one of the most spectacular ornamental trees in the world. The cream-white flowers in late spring to early summer have a distinctive sweet fragrance detectable from considerable distance. It grows naturally as a rare understory tree in moist, protected ravines and hollows of the South Appalachians and Gulf States. Site it in a protected, partly shaded location away from wind — the huge leaves shred easily in exposed sites. The rose-pink fruiting cones in fall are ornamental and provide food for birds.

Час посадки: 0–4 тижнів spring
Plant container-grown trees in spring in moist, acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil in partial shade; bigleaf magnolia requires protection from strong winds, which shred the enormous leaves. Partial afternoon shade is important in zones 7–8.
