Опис
Maleberry is a native deciduous shrub of wet, acidic soils across the eastern United States, found in pocosins, bog margins, wet flatwoods, and seasonally flooded stream banks from Maine south to Florida and west to Texas. The clusters of small, urn-shaped white flowers in late spring attract native bees and bumblebees, while the attractive fall foliage ranges from yellow to orange-red in appropriate sunlight. A member of the blueberry family (Ericaceae), Maleberry shares the extreme soil requirements of its relatives — strongly acidic, humus-rich, poorly drained to saturated conditions that would stress most landscape shrubs. Well-suited for wet, acidic garden settings including bog gardens, rain garden overflow zones, and moist native plant hedges in acid soil conditions, Maleberry is rarely cultivated but deserves wider use for challenging wet, acidic sites. Plant rooted cuttings in strongly acidic, moist to wet, humus-rich soil in partial shade to full sun.

Час посадки: 0–4 тижнів spring
Plant rooted cuttings or container-grown transplants in spring in moist to wet, strongly acidic, humus-rich, poorly drained to seasonally wet soil in partial shade to full sun. Maleberry thrives in the wet, acidic conditions of pocosins, bog margins, and wet flatwoods where most other ornamental shrubs will not succeed.
