Опис
Plant in full sun in extremely well-drained, lean, alkaline soil; cenizo is the iconic native shrub of the Texas Hill Country and Edwards Plateau and one of the most drought tolerant and xeric shrubs in the South — its silver, feltlike leaves reflect heat and reduce water loss, allowing it to thrive in the hottest, driest conditions where other shrubs fail. The lavender-purple tubular flowers burst open in response to humidity — most dramatically in the 24–48 hours before a summer rain — giving it the folk name 'barometer bush.' Bloom cycles repeat with each moisture event from summer through fall, covering the entire silver shrub in purple. Cultivars include 'Green Cloud' (dark green leaves, rich purple flowers), 'White Cloud' (white flowers), and 'Compact' (dense, 3–4-foot habit). Never overwater or fertilize — excess moisture is the primary killer. Outstanding for xeric, native, and wildlife gardens in zones 8–11.

Plant container-grown shrubs in fall or spring in extremely well-drained, alkaline to neutral, lean, rocky or sandy soil in full sun; cenizo is adapted to the caliche and limestone soils of the Chihuahuan Desert and Edwards Plateau and will decline rapidly in rich, moist, or poorly drained soils. Never amend the planting hole with organic matter.
