Опис
Plant in moist to wet, slightly acidic soil in full sun to partial shade; laurel oak is one of the most common and important native trees of the Gulf Coast and Atlantic coastal plain — a large, fast-growing semi-evergreen oak reaching 60–80 feet with a broad crown and distinctive narrowly elliptical, unlobed leaves resembling laurel or willow leaves. Unlike live oak and other southern oaks, laurel oak grows readily in the wet, poorly drained soils of floodplains, swamp margins, and pine flatwoods that define much of the Gulf Coast landscape. It provides outstanding wildlife value — the small acorns are eaten by wood ducks, deer, turkeys, squirrels, and many other species. The semi-evergreen foliage provides moderate winter screening. Laurel oak grows faster than live oak (3–5 feet per year when young) but is shorter-lived (60–80 years). An excellent shade tree for moist, low-lying Gulf Coast sites.

Plant nursery-grown trees in fall in moist to wet, slightly acidic, fertile soil in full sun to partial shade; laurel oak tolerates extended flooding and grows naturally in floodplain forests, swamp margins, and wet bottomlands of the coastal plain. It establishes quickly for a large oak when planted small.
