Опис

Large Gallberry is a robust evergreen native holly, native to the wet pine flatwoods, pocosins, bay swamps, and seepage bogs of the southeastern coastal plain from Virginia to Florida and west to Texas, where it grows alongside inkberry, fetterbush, and pond cypress in permanently moist to wet, highly acidic, sandy or peaty soils. The glossy, dark green, leathery, spine-tipped leaves provide year-round evergreen structure; female plants produce abundant clusters of large black berries in fall and winter that are critical food for bluebirds, hermit thrushes, and other migrating songbirds. Like inkberry (Ilex glabra), Large Gallberry is important for native bees, producing copious nectar that supports early-season bee populations. Plant male and female specimens together for reliable fruiting; provide consistently moist to wet, highly acidic soil in partial shade to full sun. An outstanding wildlife shrub for wet native gardens in the lower South. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 48–72 дюймів Висота: 72–144 дюймів Дні до схожості: 90–180 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 4–13°C
