Опис
Jointweed is a delicate-looking native perennial of the sandy coastal plain scrub, sandhills, and open pine flatwoods of the southeastern United States, producing masses of tiny white to pink flowers on jointed, wiry stems from summer through fall that create a misty, cloud-like appearance and provide essential late-season nectar for monarch butterflies and many native bee species on the sandy scrub habitats where few other wildflowers bloom at the same time. A member of the buckwheat family, Jointweed is adapted to the infertile, white-sand soils of ancient Florida scrub ridges and coastal plain sandhills where it serves as a foundational component of the herbaceous layer. Like other Florida scrub plants, it benefits from periodic, low-intensity fire that removes competing vegetation and maintains the open, sunny conditions required. Direct sow seeds in fall in pure, infertile, sandy, acidic, extremely well-drained soil in full sun; established plants are long-lived and drought-tolerant once their root systems develop.

Direct sow seeds in fall in pure, infertile, sandy, extremely well-drained, acidic soil in full sun. Jointweed is a Florida scrub and coastal plain endemic that requires the xeric, open conditions of its native sandy habitats and will not thrive in clay, amended, or irrigated garden soils.
