Опис
Plant in strongly acidic, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade; ixora is one of the most popular tropical flowering shrubs in the world, producing dense, rounded clusters of small tubular flowers in brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, pink, and white nearly year-round in frost-free gardens and spring through fall in zone 9. The flat-topped flower clusters (corymbs) are 3–4 inches across and attract butterflies throughout the bloom season. It is a slow-growing, compact shrub and one of the best choices for formal hedges and foundation plantings in tropical and subtropical landscapes. The main cultural challenge is soil pH: ixora demands strongly acidic conditions (pH 5.0–6.0) and in the alkaline limestone soils of Florida and the Gulf Coast, iron and manganese deficiencies cause chronic yellowing. Use acidifying fertilizer specially formulated for ixora and apply chelated iron if chlorosis appears. Avoid 'lollipop pruning' (shearing into balls) which reduces blooming — prune lightly by selectively removing branches.

Час посадки: 2–6 тижнів spring
Plant container-grown shrubs in spring in moist, well-drained, strongly acidic (pH 5.0–6.0), humus-rich soil in full sun to partial shade; ixora is highly sensitive to alkaline soil and high pH — in alkaline or limestone soils, apply acidifying fertilizer and chelated micronutrients regularly to prevent the severe chlorosis that is the most common problem with this plant in the Southeast.
