Опис
Direct sow in fall in well-drained, dry to moderately moist, slightly acidic to neutral soil in full sun — standing cypress is a native biennial of the southeastern coastal plain and Gulf Coast, producing one of the most dramatic and unique effects in the spring-summer garden: an erect, rigid, 3–5 foot spike densely clothed in feathery, bright green, cypress-like foliage, then crowned the second year with hundreds of tubular, brilliant scarlet-orange flowers from May through July. The flowers are among the most intensely attractive to ruby-throated hummingbirds of any plant in the eastern flora — a single plant in bloom will hold hummingbirds all day. Because it is biennial, sow seed each fall to maintain continuous bloom from a mixture of first- and second-year plants. It self-sows reliably in sandy, open, sunny soil to maintain naturalized colonies. An outstanding plant for formal and naturalistic gardens alike wherever a vivid vertical accent and hummingbird attraction are desired.

Direct sow seed in fall in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, sandy to loamy, dry to moderately moist soil in full sun; standing cypress is biennial — it forms a flat rosette of feathery foliage in the first year and produces its dramatic flower spike in the second year before setting seed and dying. Sow every year to maintain a continuous supply of blooming plants.
