Peegee hydrangea

Plant in moist, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained to moderately moist, fertile soil in full sun to partial shade — panicle hydrangea is the most heat, sun, and cold tolerant of all hydrangeas, thriving from zone 3 to zone 9 in conditions that would stress or kill bigleaf hydrangeas. It blooms on new wood (unlike bigleaf hydrangeas that bloom on old wood), making it immune to late-frost damage to buds — simply prune hard in late winter and it will bloom reliably every year. The enormous, cone-shaped flower panicles (12–18 inches long) open white or cream in July–August and age to pink and then burgundy-parchment in fall, remaining attractive through winter. Modern cultivars like 'Limelight' (with chartreuse-green flowers), 'Little Lime' (dwarf), 'Quick Fire' (earliest to bloom), and 'Pinky Winky' (deep pink) greatly expand the ornamental range of the species.
