Опис

Plant in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in partial shade to full sun; heliconia is one of the most exotic and spectacular tropical plants available for zone 9–12 gardens, producing large, bold banana-like foliage and dramatic flower bracts in brilliant shades of red, orange, and yellow that attract hummingbirds prolifically. H. psittacorum (parrot heliconia) is one of the smaller and most adaptable species, with slender upright stems 3–5 feet tall and colorful upright flower bracts in red-orange with green and yellow tipping — produced nearly year-round in frost-free gardens. The flowers are outstanding in tropical cut flower arrangements. Heliconias require consistent heat, moisture, and humidity to thrive; they are not drought tolerant and decline quickly when chilled below 50°F. In zone 9a they may suffer frost damage to foliage but regrow from rhizomes in spring if the soil does not freeze. Apply a thick layer of mulch to protect roots during cold snaps. Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща Відстань між рослинами: 36–60 дюймів Висота: 48–96 дюймів

Divide clumps in spring every 2–3 years to maintain vigor.
