Hammock Sweet Azalea (Clammy Azalea)

Hammock sweet azalea is a large, summer-blooming native azalea of the Gulf Coastal Plain — the most heat-tolerant and latest-blooming of all eastern native azaleas, producing fragrant clusters of tubular, white (occasionally pink-tinged) flowers with a clammy, sticky texture in July and August, when summer heat makes gardening difficult and most flowering shrubs have long since finished blooming.
