Опис
Gulf paspalum is a native grass of Gulf Coast tidal marshes, freshwater-brackish ecotones, and moist coastal flats from Texas to Florida, commonly forming dense colonies in the transition zone between fresh and salt water that are among the most important habitat areas for mottled ducks, blue-winged teal, and other dabbling waterfowl in the western Gulf Coast. The grass produces single-spoked seed heads distinctive among Gulf Coast grasses that ripen in summer and fall and are heavily consumed by waterfowl; its dense, matting rhizomes stabilize the soft, saturated soils of tidal margins and help resist shoreline erosion from boat wake and tidal action. In coastal garden ponds, rain garden overflow areas, and constructed freshwater wetlands in zone 8–11, gulf paspalum provides low, dense, wildlife-friendly groundcover in the shallowest water zones; it tolerates both freshwater flooding and moderate salinity. A component of Gulf Coast wetland restoration seed mixes, it establishes quickly and provides immediate stabilization and wildlife value.

Plant plugs or divisions in spring in wet, moist to seasonally flooded, brackish or fresh, sandy to loamy soil in full sun; gulf paspalum is a wetland-obligate coastal grass that thrives in tidal marsh margins, freshwater-saltwater transition zones, and seasonally flooded Gulf Coast flats.
