Опис
Gulf Blazingstar is one of the most distinctive and beautiful of the southeastern blazingstars, native to the dry, sandy soils of longleaf pine savannas, coastal plain sandhills, and open flatwoods from North Carolina to Texas along the Gulf and South Atlantic coastal plain. The feathery, pinkish-purple flower heads are fringed by conspicuously elongated, spreading scales (phyllaries) that give each cluster a soft, paintbrush-like appearance that immediately sets it apart from the tighter, more cylindrical heads of most other Liatris species. Blooming from September through November, Gulf Blazingstar is a critical late-season nectar source for migrating monarch butterflies, native bumblebees, and sphinx moths preparing for winter. Direct sow fresh seeds in fall in sandy, infertile, well-drained, acidic soil in full sun; the corms that form are persistent and long-lived, eventually forming impressive clumps that can be divided every 3–4 years.

Direct sow fresh seeds in fall in sandy, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil in full sun; seeds naturally cold-stratify over winter and germinate in spring. Established corms can be divided in fall and replanted immediately. Gulf Blazingstar is highly specific to dry, sandy soils and will not thrive in clay or poorly drained locations.
