Опис
Plant rhizome divisions in wet to moist, slightly acidic to neutral, fertile soil in full sun to partial shade — giant blue iris is one of the showiest of all Louisiana iris species and one of the primary parents of Louisiana iris hybrids, endemic to the coastal freshwater and brackish marshes, swampy forests, and wet prairies of coastal Louisiana. Its flowers are spectacularly large (5–7 inches across) in clear blue to blue-purple on tall stems (3–5 feet) that tower above the robust, broad leaf fans, blooming in April–May in spectacular drifts. It is significantly more salt and flood tolerant than other Louisiana irises, thriving in the challenging conditions of coastal garden areas with periodic saltwater influence. The species is an important wetland stabilizer in its native coastal marsh habitat. In gardens, it is outstanding for pond margins, rain garden edges, and any wet, low spot that holds water seasonally. Louisiana iris hybrids derived from this species have expanded greatly on its already exceptional ornamental traits.
Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща
Відстань між рослинами: 18–24 дюймів
Висота: 36–60 дюймів

Plant rhizome divisions in fall in wet to moist, slightly acidic to neutral, fertile, loamy to mucky soil in full sun to partial shade; giant blue iris naturally grows in salt-influenced freshwater and brackish marshes of coastal Louisiana and is uniquely tolerant of poor drainage, flooding, and coastal salt influence.
