Опис
Large Fothergilla is an exceptional four-season native shrub, native to the mountain forests and rocky slopes of the southern Appalachians from Virginia and North Carolina south to Alabama, producing fragrant, white, bottlebrush-like flower spikes of dense stamens in April and May before the leaves emerge — a display that rivals those of its close relative Witch Hazel (Hamamelis). Larger than Dwarf Fothergilla (F. gardenii), it grows 6–10 feet tall and wide and provides multi-season appeal through its dark green, blue-green tinged summer foliage, one of the finest fall color displays of any native shrub (crimson, orange, and yellow often appearing simultaneously on a single leaf), and attractive winter form. Grow in moist, well-drained, acidic soil in partial shade to full sun; best fall color develops in full sun, but the plant tolerates partial shade and is easy to establish in typical native plant garden conditions. An outstanding choice for four-season structure in the southeastern native garden.

Час посадки: 0–4 тижнів spring
Plant nursery transplants in spring in moist, well-drained, acidic (pH 4.5–6.0) soil in partial shade to full sun. Large Fothergilla tolerates partial shade but produces the best fall color and most flowers in full sun with consistent moisture.
