The lance-shaped, three-veined leaves are glossy and attractive; clusters of small white to pale pink flowers appear in spring and summer and are followed by dark purple-black berries eaten by birds including the White-crowned Pigeon. An ornamental and ecologically significant native shrub of the highly threatened South Florida pine rockland community — one of the most endangered ecosystems in the United States — Florida Clover Ash deserves wider cultivation in Zone 10–11 South Florida native plant gardens. Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, rocky or sandy, humus-rich soil in partial shade to full sun; established plants are drought-tolerant in the rocky, thin soils of its native pine rockland habitat.
