Опис
Plant in well-drained, lean soil in full sun to partial shade; flame acanthus (hummingbird bush) earns its name with brilliant orange-red tubular flowers that literally glow like flames and attract hummingbirds from the moment the plants begin blooming in late spring through fall. It is a tough, deciduous or semi-evergreen native shrub of the Texas brush country that thrives in rocky alkaline soil, extreme heat, and drought conditions that would wilt most plants. The orange-scarlet flowers are produced in profusion from spring through frost, providing hummingbirds with a nearly continuous nectar source. It is deer resistant and rabbit resistant. The plant dies to the ground in hard freezes in zone 7–8 but resprouts vigorously from established root systems. An essential and easy plant for the wildlife-friendly Gulf Coast garden.
