Japanese fatsia

Plant in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in partial to full shade; fatsia is one of the most dramatic and tropical-looking shade shrubs for zone 7–11 gardens, producing enormous, glossy, deeply lobed leaves 12–18 inches across on bold, multi-stemmed plants that create an instant tropical feel in the darkest garden corners. The leaves hold their rich, dark green color year-round and are remarkably resistant to wind damage. Clusters of small white ball-shaped flowers appear in fall, followed by black berries. It is one of the most shade-tolerant large shrubs available and thrives under the dense canopy of live oaks and other large trees where most plants fail.
