Опис
Plant in moist, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil in partial to full shade; eastern wahoo is a native alternative to the invasive Asian burning bush (Euonymus alatus) and performs the same landscape function — stunning fall color — while supporting native wildlife instead of escaping into woodlands. In fall, the foliage turns brilliant scarlet-red while the seed pods split open to reveal dangling bright coral-pink and orange arillate seeds that attract migratory birds including thrushes, bluebirds, and waxwings. The purple-tinged flowers in late spring are modest but charming. The plant tolerates deep shade and is one of few shrubs that thrives under the dense canopy of mature oaks and maples. All parts are toxic to humans and livestock. This is the true 'burning bush' of the native landscape.
