Опис
Plant rhizome divisions in fall in very well-drained, strongly acidic, sandy, humus-rich soil in partial shade; dwarf iris is one of the smallest and most charming native irises of the eastern US, producing miniature (2–3 inch) violet-blue flowers with yellow signals on stems only 3–5 inches tall in early spring — often the first iris to bloom, along with hepatica and spring beauty. It grows naturally in dry, acidic, sandy soils of open pine woodlands and dry, rocky woodland edges from Virginia to Georgia, in conditions very different from the moist requirements of most native irises. The leaves are narrow and grasslike. It spreads slowly by slender rhizomes to form a low colony. Excellent for naturalizing in acidic, dry-shaded rock gardens or under pines in the Southeast — one of the few dwarf irises suited to zone 8–9 conditions.

Plant rhizome divisions in fall in very well-drained, strongly acidic (pH 4.5–5.5), sandy, humus-rich, dry to moist soil in partial shade; dwarf iris requires excellent drainage and strongly acidic soil — it will not tolerate clay, wet, or neutral to alkaline conditions.
