Опис

Plant in moist, fertile, slightly acidic to neutral soil in partial shade to full sun with a sturdy support structure; woolly Dutchman's pipe is the southeastern US native species of Aristolochia, distinguished from A. macrophylla by its dense woolly coating of soft hairs on the leaves and stems — a beautiful textural detail. Like all native Aristolochia species, it is the exclusive larval host plant for the pipevine swallowtail butterfly (Battus philenor), one of the most spectacular black-and-iridescent-blue native butterflies in eastern North America. A single established vine supports dozens of caterpillars each season. The unusual curved, yellowish-green to brown pipe-shaped flowers are insect-trapping devices that temporarily trap small flies for pollination. Twining stems reach 10–20 feet and provide rapid screening in partial shade. Highly recommended for butterfly gardens in zones 5–9, particularly in the Southeast where this species is native. Спосіб посадки: Розмноження живцюванням Відстань між рослинами: 36–60 дюймів Висота: 120–240 дюймів Дні до схожості: 14–30 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 16–21°C
