Опис
Plant in well-drained, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in full shade; marginal wood fern is one of the most reliable and widely adaptable native ferns of eastern North America, named for the distinctive placement of its spore clusters (sori) at the very margins of the leaflet undersides — a useful identification feature. Unlike many ferns, it tolerates moderately dry, shaded conditions remarkably well, thriving under the dry shade of large deciduous trees where soil moisture is scarce and most ferns fail. The broad, leathery, dark blue-green fronds are semi-evergreen to evergreen in milder zones, maintaining ornamental value through winter and providing year-round structure in the shade garden. It grows as a neat vase-shaped crown and does not spread by running rhizomes, making it exceptionally well-behaved in formal plantings. One of the easiest native ferns for the beginning shade gardener.

Plant divisions or nursery-grown plants in spring in moist, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained, humus-rich soil in full shade; marginal wood fern is highly drought tolerant once established for a fern and can grow on dry, rocky, shaded slopes. Avoid waterlogged soil.
