Plant rhizomes 2 inches deep in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in partial shade; Curcuma alismatifolia (Siam tulip) is one of the most striking ornamental gingers, producing elegant upright flower spikes in late summer with a cone of showy bracts in pink, purple, or white, resembling a large tulip — hence the name. The broad, tropical foliage and exotic inflorescences make curcumas outstanding cut flowers and exceptional accent plants in the shaded summer border.
