Creek Plum is a native shrubby plum of stream banks, creek margins, woodland edges, and disturbed open lands across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and adjacent states, producing clusters of small, bright red to yellow plums in mid-summer that are sweet, tart, and excellent fresh or for jams, jellies, and preserves. The profuse clusters of white flowers that cover the branches in early spring before leaf emergence are as ornamentally striking as any cultivated ornamental plum, making Creek Plum a multi-season landscape value as well as an edible landscape plant for zone 6–9 gardens. Spreads readily by root sprouts to form dense, multi-stemmed thickets that provide valuable wildlife habitat — nesting cover for mockingbirds and other birds, and the plums are consumed by mockingbirds, thrashers, raccoons, and white-tailed deer. Plant in full sun in well-drained to moderately moist, slightly acidic soil; Creek Plum tolerates heat, periodic drought, and moderate clay once established.

Plant container-grown transplants in spring in well-drained to moderately moist, slightly acidic soil in full sun; Creek Plum tolerates a range of soil types from sandy loam to clay. It spreads by root sprouts to form thickets — a valuable quality for erosion control but plan for the eventual colony footprint. Seeds require 90–120 days of cold stratification.
