Опис
Direct sow or transplant in fall in well-drained, slightly alkaline to neutral, dry to moderately moist soil in full sun — cottage pinks are the classic old-fashioned garden pinks of European cottage gardens, producing intensely fragrant, fringed (hence 'plumarius' — feathery), five-petaled flowers in shades of white, pink, rose, crimson, and bicolors in May–June on a low, spreading mat of glaucous blue-green, grass-like foliage that remains attractive year-round. The rich, spicy-sweet, clove-like fragrance is extraordinary — unmatched by modern hybrid dianthus — and one of the defining scents of the traditional cottage garden. They require excellent drainage and perform best in slightly alkaline soils, making them excellent choices for rock gardens, dry stone walls, gravel gardens, and raised beds with sharply drained soil. Deadhead spent flowers to extend bloom; shear plants by one-third after flowering to maintain a tidy, compact mound.

Direct sow or transplant in fall in well-drained, slightly alkaline to neutral, dry to moderately moist, loamy to rocky soil in full sun; cottage pinks require excellent drainage and will not survive in wet or heavy clay soils. Avoid overhead watering to prevent crown rot.
