Опис

Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil in full sun to partial shade; this native thicket-forming shrub tolerates a wider range of conditions than European hazelnut and is resistant to Eastern filbert blight. Plant at least two different seedling-grown plants together, as this species is self-incompatible and requires cross-pollination for nut set. Nuts ripen in September–October, enclosed in leafy husks; harvest when the husks begin to loosen and dry nuts in a single layer before storing. The multi-stemmed habit can be managed by removing the oldest canes at the base every few years.
