Contender is a disease-resistant, cold-hardy, self-pollinating peach that produces abundant medium-to-large juicy freestone fruit across many climates. Plant in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil and water consistently during fruit development. Thin young fruit to about 6 inches apart to improve size and prevent limb breakage. Prune annually in late winter to an open-center shape for light penetration, and apply dormant sprays as needed to manage common peach diseases.
