Опис
Coastal Plain Willow is the most abundant native willow of the coastal plain wetlands, stream banks, tidal margins, and disturbed wet soils from Virginia south through Florida and west to Texas and the Caribbean, forming dense multi-stemmed thickets that provide critical cover and nesting habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, and muskrats. Like all willows, it produces copious pollen and nectar in early spring that are among the first resources available to emerging queen bumblebees, native sweat bees, and early butterflies; the foliage hosts the caterpillars of Viceroy, Mourning Cloak, and numerous native moths. Propagate easily from hardwood cuttings taken in late winter before bud break, inserting 8–12 inch stems into moist, wet soil in full sun; rooting is rapid, establishment reliable, and fallen branches that contact moist soil root naturally. Coastal Plain Willow spreads aggressively by root suckers in wet areas and is best used in large, naturalized riparian settings where its vigorous growth habit is an asset.

Take hardwood cuttings 8–12 inches long in late winter before bud break and insert directly into moist soil at the water's edge in full sun; rooting is rapid and reliable. Coastal Plain Willow establishes quickly from cuttings and can also be established by planting dormant rooted stems directly in saturated soil.
