Опис

Coastal Plain Staggerbush is a native evergreen shrub endemic to the dry, sandy, fire-maintained scrub and flatwood habitats of the Florida peninsula, where its dense, leathery-leaved growth and small white to pink urn-shaped flowers in spring make it a characteristic component of the open, sunny, infertile sand communities dominated by oaks and palmettos. Adapted to the same xeric conditions as Florida Rosemary, Scrub Hickory, and other Florida scrub specialists, Coastal Plain Staggerbush requires excellent drainage and periodic low-intensity fire to maintain the open, competitive-free conditions it requires. Like other Lyonia species, the foliage contains grayanotoxins and is toxic to livestock if consumed. Plant in dry, strongly acidic, sandy, well-drained, infertile soil in full sun — Coastal Plain Staggerbush thrives in the nutrient-poor, fire-managed conditions of its native habitat and requires no supplemental fertilizer or irrigation once established.
