Опис

Coastal Doghobble is a graceful, arching, broadleaf evergreen native shrub, native to moist, acidic, shaded streambanks, ravine slopes, and moist, sandy forest understories of the southeastern coastal plain from Virginia to Florida and west to Mississippi, where its arching stems weave through the understory to form dense, impenetrable thickets — hence the 'doghobble' name, as hunting dogs became entangled in the arching stems. In April and May it produces racemes of small, white, urn-shaped flowers along the undersides of the arching branches, followed by attractive dark green, leathery, lance-shaped leaves that turn burgundy-red to bronze in winter, providing excellent cold-season color in the shade garden. One of the most shade-tolerant native broadleaf evergreen shrubs available, Coastal Doghobble thrives under dense tree canopy where azaleas and camellias struggle; provide consistently moist, acidic soil and avoid alkaline conditions or prolonged drought.
