Опис
Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, average to poor, rocky soil in full sun to partial shade; New Jersey tea is a remarkable native shrub with one of the most interesting histories in American botany — the dried leaves were widely used as a tea substitute during the Revolutionary War when British tea was boycotted. The fluffy clusters of tiny white flowers in early summer are among the most important nectar sources in the native prairie and woodland edge, attracting dozens of bee species, skippers, and hairstreak butterflies. The roots fix atmospheric nitrogen, improving soil fertility over time. This shrub is exceptionally drought-tolerant once its deep taproot is established, thriving on rocky, infertile, dry soils where few shrubs succeed. The spring bee value alone makes it an outstanding native garden plant. It resents being moved after establishment, so site it correctly from the start.

Plant container-grown shrubs in spring in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral, average to poor, rocky soil in full sun to partial shade; new Jersey tea has an extremely deep taproot and is very difficult to transplant once established — site it carefully the first time.
