Опис
Carolina Holly is a native deciduous holly of the coastal plain and lower piedmont from the Carolinas south to Florida and west to Texas, growing as a large shrub or small tree at forest edges, hammock borders, and along stream banks in partial shade to full sun. The small but vivid red to orange-red berries, held in clusters along the bare winter branches after leaf drop, are an important food source for robins, cedar waxwings, bluebirds, hermit thrushes, and other fruit-eating birds during fall migration and winter. Like all native hollies, Carolina Holly is dioecious — both male and female plants are required within pollinator range for berry production — and its modest size compared to American Holly makes it suitable for smaller gardens where the larger species may overwhelm the space. Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in partial shade to full sun; established plants tolerate moderate drought and require little maintenance.

Час посадки: 0–4 тижнів spring
Plant container-grown transplants or rooted cuttings in spring in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in partial shade to full sun. Carolina Holly is dioecious — plant one male for every 2–3 females within 50 feet for reliable berry production. Seeds require double stratification and are slow to germinate.
