Опис

Plant in moist, well-drained, strongly acidic (pH 5.5–6.5), humus-rich soil in partial shade; Japanese camellia is the quintessential flowering shrub of the American South, producing large, formal, rose-like flowers in red, pink, white, and bicolor combinations in late fall through early spring — when almost nothing else is in bloom. Over 30,000 named cultivars exist, ranging from single-flowered (most cold-hardy) to fully double (most spectacular). In zone 8–9 it is one of the most spectacular ornamental shrubs available: a mature, large-flowered camellia in full January bloom, covered in hundreds of perfect flowers, is one of the most breath-taking sights in any garden. It requires strongly acidic soil and will show iron and manganese deficiency chlorosis in neutral or alkaline conditions. Prune immediately after bloom in late spring before the following year's buds set. Scale insects and petal blight are the primary concerns — improve air circulation and treat scale with horticultural oil in late winter. Спосіб посадки: Розмноження живцюванням Відстань між рослинами: 60–120 дюймів Висота: 72–240 дюймів

Fall planting allows root establishment before the winter bloom season begins.
