Опис

Buckley's oak (also called Texas red oak) is a native tree of the limestone hills and rocky canyons of the Texas Hill Country, Edwards Plateau, and Cross Timbers region — the most important red-oak-type tree for autumn color in central Texas. In October and November, its deeply lobed leaves turn brilliant shades of orange-red, red, and scarlet — spectacular fall color unusual for the semi-arid Texas Hill Country where most oaks turn only dull brown or rust. Because it grows naturally on the shallow, rocky limestone soils and caliche of the Texas Hill Country and Edwards Plateau, it is better adapted to alkaline soils than most other red oaks in its group; it is one of the few native oaks that will tolerate the alkaline, calcium-rich soils common across central Texas that cause iron chlorosis in acid-adapted species. The medium-sized acorns are consumed by white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and scrub-jays, and the tree provides important larval host resources for hundreds of native Lepidoptera. Excellent choice for limestone-soil native landscapes in central Texas and the Oklahoma Cross Timbers. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 240–480 дюймів Висота: 240–480 дюймів Дні до схожості: 30–90 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 7–18°C
