Опис
Plant in very well-drained, dry to moderately moist, alkaline to neutral soil in full sun — blue hesper palm is arguably the most ornamentally striking palm in the world for dry climates, producing enormous, rigid, deeply divided, silvery powder-blue fan fronds up to 6 feet across on a stout, solitary trunk that grows very slowly to 30–40 feet. Native to Baja California and northwest Mexico, it is one of the most cold-tolerant fan palms for dry-climate gardens, hardy to approximately 15°F once established, and thriving in the hot, dry conditions of zone 9–11 Southwest and Gulf Coast. The spectacular 15–20 foot long creamy-yellow flower stalks that extend dramatically beyond the crown are among the most dramatic flowering events of any palm. Extremely drought tolerant once established — planted in well-drained soil, it requires virtually no supplemental irrigation in warm, dry regions. Growth is very slow (6–12 inches per year), so purchase the largest specimen the budget allows.

Час посадки: 2–6 тижнів spring
Plant container specimens in spring in very well-drained, sandy to loamy, alkaline to slightly acidic, dry to moderately moist soil in full sun; blue hesper palm is cold-hardy to approximately 12–15°F when established and requires excellent drainage — it will not tolerate wet or waterlogged soils.
