Опис
Plant in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic soil in partial to full shade; blue ginger is one of the most treasured and sought-after shade plants for tropical and subtropical gardens, producing dense terminal clusters of intensely deep royal-blue flowers — the rich, saturated blue is among the most vivid blues in tropical horticulture — on upright, bamboo-like stems with spirally arranged, glossy, broad leaves. The flowers appear in late summer and fall, at exactly the time when blue is most welcome in the garden palette. Despite the name, it is not a true ginger (Zingiberaceae) but belongs to the spiderwort family. It grows most luxuriantly in warm, sheltered, brightly shaded spots — beneath a pergola, porch, or canopy tree — in zones 9–12. In zone 9a it dies back completely after frost, but established rhizomes regrow reliably each spring and the plant typically blooms in its first year of regrowth. A true collector's plant and one of the best shade perennials available for the Gulf Coast garden.
Спосіб посадки: Розмноження діленням куща
Відстань між рослинами: 24–36 дюймів
Висота: 36–72 дюймів

Plant divisions or stem cuttings in spring in moist, humus-rich, slightly acidic, well-drained to moderately moist soil in partial to full shade; blue ginger requires warm temperatures and high humidity to thrive — it does not tolerate cold, dry, or windy conditions. In zone 9 it dies back to the ground after frost but reliably regrows from rhizomes in spring.
