Опис
Plant in any moist to well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade — blue elderberry is the western North American native elderberry, native from British Columbia to Baja California and east to the Rocky Mountains, producing large, flat-topped clusters of dark blue to blue-black berries with a distinctive waxy, blue-gray bloom (giving both plant and fruit their names). The berries are slightly sweeter than American elderberry (S. canadensis) and are used the same way — in jellies, juices, wines, elderflower cordial, and traditional medicine. Blue elderberry is significantly more drought-tolerant than American elderberry, adapts to alkaline soils, and grows in the dry, sunny conditions of western landscapes where the eastern species struggles. It is an important food and medicine plant in the traditions of dozens of western Native American nations. Plant where spreading by suckers is acceptable.
