Also called monastery bells, this fast-growing vine bears 2-inch cup-shaped flowers that open pale green and mature to violet purple. Start seed indoors six to eight weeks before the last frost in warmth, standing the flat seeds on edge in the soil. Grow in full sun to part shade near arbors, fences, or trellises where it quickly forms a fragrant privacy screen. Pinch back the tips to encourage branching and more blooms. It flowers from summer until frost and is grown as an annual outside frost-free zones.
