Опис
Bent-awn plumegrass is a spectacular native grass of Gulf Coastal Plain wet longleaf pine savannas and roadside swales, producing large, open, silky plumes of copper-tinted to silvery-white spikelets in fall that shimmer in the breeze and rank among the most beautiful of all native grass seed heads in the Southeast. Each spikelet has a distinctive twisted, bent awn (bristle) that catches the light and gives the plume a textured, almost sparkling appearance — the 'bent-awn' common name accurately describes this key feature. Like its close relative sugarcane (in the same genus), bent-awn plumegrass has reed-like stems with prominent nodes and broad, corn-like leaves that give it a bold, architectural quality during the growing season; the tall, plumed form makes it an excellent vertical accent in wet native meadows and rain garden borders. It grows naturally alongside other savanna species including bladderworts, sundews, orchids, and pitcher plants in the fire-maintained wet pine flatwoods of the Gulf Coast, where it is an indicator of high-quality natural habitat.

Direct sow in fall in moist to wet, acidic, sandy or peaty soil in full sun; bent-awn plumegrass naturally occurs in moist longleaf pine savannas, wet roadside ditches, and boggy depressions — requires consistently moist, acidic soil and full sun.
