Опис
Plant divisions in moist to moderately dry, slightly acidic soil in partial to full shade; epimedium (barrenwort, bishop's hat) is arguably the most underused and underrated of all shade groundcovers — a slowly spreading, low-maintenance perennial that tolerates dry shade under established tree roots better than any other herbaceous perennial. The attractive, heart-shaped leaflets are often mottled with red or bronze when young, and the dainty four-petaled flowers resembling tiny hats or butterflies in yellow, pink, white, red, or bicolor appear in spring. E. x versicolor 'Sulphureum' has pale yellow flowers and reliably semi-evergreen foliage in mild winters. Once established, epimediums are nearly drought proof and essentially pest-free. Cut old foliage to the ground in late winter before new growth begins to showcase the spring flowers. A plant that rewards patience — increasingly impressive each year after establishment.

Plant divisions in fall in moist to moderately dry, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained, humus-rich soil in partial to full shade; epimediums tolerate dry shade under established trees better than almost any other perennial groundcover. Do not disturb established plantings unnecessarily — they improve dramatically over years.
