Опис

Ashe Magnolia is one of the rarest magnolias in North America, a critically imperiled native shrub or small tree endemic to the steep, moist, shaded ravines and bluffs of the Florida Panhandle in a handful of counties in far northwest Florida and adjacent Alabama, where fewer than 20 wild populations survive. Despite its rarity in the wild, Ashe Magnolia is relatively easy to grow in cultivation and is widely offered by specialty native plant nurseries; it is often treated as a dwarf or subspecies of the closely related Bigleaf Magnolia (Magnolia macrophylla) but is considered a distinct species by most authorities. The enormous, white, bowl-shaped flowers (12–14 inches across) with purple-spotted centers appear in April and May and are among the most spectacular of any magnolia — attracting native bees and beetles as pollinators. Plant in moist, well-drained, slightly acidic, humus-rich soil in partial shade and protect from drying winds that damage the enormous leaves; it is significantly smaller and faster-blooming than M. macrophylla, making it more suitable for the typical home garden. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 120–180 дюймів Висота: 120–360 дюймів Дні до схожості: 60–180 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 4–13°C

Ashe Magnolia blooms within 3–5 years from seed — much faster than most magnolias — and is appropriate for smaller gardens where Bigleaf Magnolia (Magnolia macrophylla) would be too large.
