Downy Jasmine (Angel Jasmine)

Plant in well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil in full sun to partial shade — downy jasmine is an Indian native jasmine widely grown along the Gulf Coast for its masses of small, starry, pure white flowers with a light, sweet fragrance produced from fall through spring during the cooler months. The soft, downy-hairy leaves and stems give it an appealing, fine-textured, gray-green appearance when out of bloom. It is a sprawling, loose shrub that can be used as a large-scale groundcover, a slope stabilizer, or a mounding informal hedge; with light pruning after bloom it stays tidy and compact. Unlike many jasmines, it tolerates partial shade and performs excellently along the shaded sides of buildings and fences. In zone 9 the foliage may drop or be damaged in hard freezes but the plant resprouts quickly from roots; in zone 10–11 it is fully evergreen. Extremely drought tolerant once established, requiring virtually no supplemental irrigation in adapted soils.
