Опис
American Water-Willow is a native aquatic and emergent perennial of clean streams, river margins, and shallow lake edges across eastern North America, where its rhizomatous colonies form dense mats of willow-like leaves in the current, catching and filtering silt while stabilizing stream banks. The bicolored white and violet flowers are produced prolifically from late spring through summer and are outstanding nectar sources for native bumblebees, hummingbirds, and sphinx moths visiting the shallow water's edge. Plant divisions in spring in shallow water (0–6 inches) or at the water's edge in full sun to partial shade; American Water-Willow spreads readily by rhizomes to form dense, erosion-controlling colonies and is an exceptional native plant for water garden edges, stream bank stabilization, and rain garden overflow zones where periodic flooding occurs. The dense underwater stems also provide important spawning and refuge habitat for small fish.

Divide established clumps in spring and plant divisions in shallow water (0–6 inches deep) or at the water's edge in full sun to partial shade. American Water-Willow spreads by rhizomes to form dense colonies and is best established from divisions of existing clumps in wet, acidic, sandy or mucky streamside soil.
