Опис

Abyssinian Banana is the most dramatic of the ornamental bananas, native to the highland forests of Ethiopia and East Africa and grown worldwide as a bold tropical accent plant for its colossal size and the extraordinary visual impact of its enormous leaves — reaching up to 10 feet long with striking red midribs on deep green blades — that create an instant tropical atmosphere wherever they are planted. Unlike true bananas (Musa species), Abyssinian Banana is monocarpic, meaning each trunk (pseudostem) flowers once after 3–10 years and then dies; unlike rhizomatous bananas it does not produce pups from the base, and in Ethiopia the starchy corm and pseudostem are fermented to produce enset (a culturally crucial food for over 20 million people) rather than relying on the fruit for food. In zones 9b–11 it persists as a perennial; in zones 8–9 it is typically grown as an impressive annual or dug and stored frost-free for the winter. Provide the richest, most moisture-retentive soil available, regular fertilization, and full sun for maximum leaf size. Спосіб посадки: Висадка розсади Відстань між рослинами: 120–180 дюймів Висота: 120–240 дюймів Дні до схожості: 21–60 Температура ґрунту для схожості: 24–29°C

In zones 8–9, Abyssinian Banana must be treated as a large annual or overwintered indoors; dig and pot the plant before frost and store in a frost-free location.
